U.S. Congresswoman Ilhan Omar stated that India is severely oppressing its Muslim minority and has now reached the eighth stage of genocide, citing reports to support her remarks.
As a Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives, Omar made these comments while discussing issues concerning Muslim communities. She explained that according to reports emerging from India, the country has already entered the eighth stage of genocide. She emphasized that this is not only due to Prime Minister Modi’s government but has spread systematically throughout society, making it crucial to continue issuing warnings. Omar delivered these remarks at an event organized by the Indian American Muslim Council (IAMC) in the United States.
According to Genocide Watch, genocide develops through ten stages. Stage 8 — Persecution — involves systematic violations of minority rights, unlawful killings, confiscation of property, forced displacement, segregation, and denial of access to basic necessities such as food and medicine.
The Indian government, however, strongly rejected these claims, responding that over the past 12 years the living conditions of minorities in India have improved, and that no one has been forced to flee the country due to religion.
