Regarding the killing of ten Muslims in Taungup town on June 3, 2012, I sent a report to Hla Maung Thein under the name “Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing.” Not long after — less than a week — I was held in prison for over 7 months, nearly 8, without being brought to court and without being informed of any charges against me.
Regarding the Taungup incident:
The ones who killed so brutally went free, while the 7 who stepped over the corpses received only 7 years in prison for causing grievous bodily harm. Those who were said to have forcibly dragged people off the vehicle and killed them inhumanely were sentenced to only 7 years for ordinary causing of injury. In order to expose this case, in 2015 I went under the pretext of offering free teaching in the areas of Myauk Oo Kone, Nga La Gyi, and Thabye Chaung. While gathering information to expose the truth while teaching, Nyi Pu and a group of prostitutes, colluding with the Kyaukni Maw camp commander, framed me by claiming I had burned down my own house — and had me imprisoned.
When I reached Kyaukphyu Prison, I met two of the 7 who had been imprisoned for killing 10 Muslims. The words they spoke to me I recorded between 2018 and 2020, and they are written and documented in a book titled “Twin Brothers from Rakhine State”. I am currently working toward getting it published in print soon.
Note: “Hla Maung Thein” was a senior official. The phrase “Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing” (သိုးရေခြုံသောဝံပုလွေ) appears to be used as a pseudonym or as a characterization of the person the report was sent to, suggesting the author viewed him as deceptively dangerous.

On 3 June,[26] a mob attacked a bus in Taungup, mistakenly believing those responsible for the murder were on board.[27] Ten Muslims were killed in the attack,[28] prompting protests by Burmese Muslims in the commercial capital, Yangon. The government responded by appointing a minister and a senior police chief to head an investigation committee. The committee was ordered to find out “cause and instigation of the incident” and to pursue legal action.[29] As of 2nd July 2012, 30 people had been arrested over the killing of the Muslims.[30]

Taungup, Toungup, or Taunggoke (Burmese: တောင်ကုတ်မြို့) is the principal town of the Taungup Township and Taunggup District in Rakhine State, western Myanmar. In 2014, the town had a population of 28,652.[2] In 2019, the population was lower at only 26,854 people.[1]
