Saying that Galon U Saw sacrificed himself to protect the Union’s future feels far too exaggerated. As far as I noticed, that phrase was first spread by MaBaTha (nationalist monks). Of course, there may have been others who said it earlier, but it was MaBaTha who spread it widely among the public as propaganda. I clearly remember seeing it on monk accounts on Facebook. Some may be fake accounts, but I carefully checked — there are also genuine accounts.

Are they calling Galon U Saw a martyr? They’ve gone so far as to portray him as the true patriot who saved the country — claiming that General Aung San was not a martyr, but rather that Galon U Saw, who assassinated him, was the real martyr. They’ve gone completely wild.

For the Rakhine people, even U Ko Ni’s murderer was given the martyr title by Rakhine monks.
(Note: U Ko Ni was a prominent lawyer assassinated in 2017.)

Yes, the Rakhine people. Galon U Saw was their “Patron.” He demanded that Rakhine and other regions be allowed to secede instead of being designated as “states.” General Aung San did not accept that demand.
