“President U Min Aung Hlaing stated in an Eleven Media interview following his trip to China that five years is simply not enough time to make the country peaceful and developed, to ensure the people’s happiness, and to demonstrate that there is no discrimination based on race, religion, or skin color. He mentioned it requires 10 to 15 years.

If the country can achieve peace and progress, if it doesn’t oppose the public interest, and if equality and justice can be proven through actions rather than words, then that would be excellent. However, demonstrating this shouldn’t involve stalling tactics—like saying it will take five or ten years to show results. Instead, open and transparent policies must be established right now, and step-by-step implementation needs to begin immediately.

In my view, the public isn’t holding out for an impossible ‘golden platter of rice served by the moon in the sky.’ If he can reasonably deliver on immediate needs—ensuring people are well-fed, decently clothed, lowering commodity prices, providing security, upholding the rule of law, and making education and healthcare accessible—within the first five years, the public will support him. But if the first five years consist only of grand rhetoric and theatrical gestures, where people look to the skies expecting a majestic leader but end up with a ‘banana-plantation prince’ carrying a machete, then they will completely lose faith in any talk of another five or ten years.

Note: For various reasons, Daw Su [Aung San Suu Kyi] has been stopped. For various reasons, the Spring [Revolution] has stalled. For various reasons, U Min Aung Hlaing has become President. If we cannot do it ourselves, will we support him so he can deliver? Or will we sabotage his efforts just because we can’t do it ourselves? Will we look at the face of the public, or the face of our own faction? Is it for the well-being of the country, or for us to gain power?”

My comment about perspective on governance, accountability, and the political reality

While the post correctly highlights that a nation cannot survive on empty promises, we must take this analysis a step further. Every nation must have a definitive Vision and a clear Road Map to reach its destination. True governance relies on structured 10-year, 20-year, and 30-year macro-plans that are systematically broken down into actionable yearly plans—specifically detailed and defended during annual parliamentary budget debates.

Furthermore, modern administration requires strict KPI (Key Performance Indicator) objectives to measure real progress. Merely asking indirectly for a blanket or blind, continuous mandate to hold power for 25 years without structural accountability is fundamentally wrong.

The underlying reality remains clear: he himself is fully aware that regardless of whether he releases Daw Aung San Suu Kyi or not, if a truly free and fair election were allowed with the NLD participating, he and his Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) would decisively lose the elections. Real progress cannot be built on an indefinite extension of power shielded from the genuine will of the people.
