To me, that is exactly what Donald Trump does every single time he doesn\u2019t get his way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I looked up the meaning of “spoiled brat” on Google, and the translation given was a pampered child. What about “brat”? Google defines it as a mischievous or naughty child. So, does a “spoiled brat” mean a mischievous, pampered child? Or perhaps malicious\/bad rather than just “naughty”?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The English definition goes like this: A spoiled brat is a child or perhaps a person who acts badly, throws tantrums, or shows no regard for others because they are used to getting whatever they want.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

That, to me, is precisely how Donald Trump behaves whenever things don’t go his way\u2014understandable, perhaps, for someone born with a silver spoon. Except Trump is no longer a child. He is 80 years old and the president of the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His latest tantrum erupted a few Fridays ago when he was passed over for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize. We naturally remember that he also missed out on the award last year, despite desperately campaigning for a win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 2025 laureate was Mar\u00eda Corina Machado, the Venezuelan opposition leader. Machado is a political adversary of Nicol\u00e1s Maduro, who\u2014during his tenure as Venezuela’s president\u2014was “abducted” by Trump and brought to the US to face the US justice system on drug-related criminal charges. Machado handed her Nobel Peace Prize gold medal to Trump while thanking the US president for taking action against Maduro and his regime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year\u2019s Nobel Peace Prize winner showed no signs of following Machado’s lead. In fact, Navanethem “Navi” Pillay, upon being informed of her win, told her applauding friends with sharp cynicism: “If you clap a little bit more, I may share this prize with Trump.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Navi Pillay, a South African human rights lawyer, previously defended Nelson Mandela when the legendary leader fought against the apartheid regime in Pretoria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As soon as Navi\u2019s victory was announced, Trump grumbled, rebelled, and threw a fit just like a spoiled brat, belittling her in the process. “The Nobel prize was given out to a liberal person who works at the United Nations whom nobody has ever heard of,”<\/em> Trump declared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In truth, Navi is far from a nobody. She is widely known as the former UN human rights chief who chaired the commission that concluded Israel committed genocide in Gaza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It came as no surprise, then, that Benjamin Netanyahu fiercely criticized Navi’s award. Since Trump is a close ally of Netanyahu and endorses Israel\u2019s actions in Gaza, he shares the same sentiment as the Israeli leader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, what truly infuriated Trump about missing out on the Nobel Peace Prize is his conviction that he is a leader who stops wars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The United States of America, represented by me as your president, should have received the Nobel Peace Prize but didn\u2019t. And this is an indelible stain on the country of Norway and those people that made such a disgraceful and embarrassing decision.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Nobel Peace Prize has been forever discredited by a handful of radical ideologues who are anti-democracy and really enemies of civilization. We will not forget, Norway, that you didn\u2019t give this prize.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Trump targeted Norway because the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded by a committee based in that country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump claims he has successfully resolved eight wars. CNN has noted this is factually incorrect. Interestingly, CNN analyst Daniel Dale pointed out that Trump actually started an ongoing war with Iran<\/em>. Indeed. Even without Dale\u2019s reminder, we recall that Trump and Netanyahu launched a military offensive against Iran on Feb 28. The war continues to this day, and Trump keeps threatening to annihilate Iran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aside from serving as the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Navi Pillay has also been a judge at the International Criminal Court (ICC), served as president of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, and currently holds that position for the tribunal on Myanmar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am uncertain whether Navi’s standing and past roles at the ICC have anything to do with the Trump administration’s vow to dismantle or “dismantle the ICC brick by brick,”<\/em> as stated by Secretary of State Marco Rubio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rubio announced that the US would impose various sanctions, including “cutting off the court\u2019s resources to stop investigations into US personnel and allies like Israel.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clearly, the US wants to prevent the ICC from holding Tel Aviv accountable for genocide in Gaza, maintaining that the international court “has no jurisdiction over its citizens”\u2014even if they commit international crimes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the past, the ICC has issued several rulings unpalatable to the US and Israel, including arrest warrants for Netanyahu and former defense minister Yoav Gallant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UN Secretary-General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres described the Trump administration’s decision\u2014announced on the very day Navi was named the 2026 Nobel Peace laureate\u2014as “a serious blow to our collective pursuit of international criminal justice, of which the ICC is a key pillar.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The United Kingdom, alongside Canada, Denmark, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, and the Netherlands, expressed deep regret over Washington’s actions and stated they “strongly disagree with the sanctions.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

These eight nations reaffirmed their unwavering and continuous support for the ICC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ICC remains an essential judicial institution in delivering justice to victims of international crimes and must be fiercely defended. To Trump\u2019s decision: damn it all.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
