As the junta loses territorial control, economic stability, and domestic legitimacy, it has turned to the oldest and most cynical tool in the dictator’s playbook: weaponized patriotism and state-sponsored religious nationalism.

Unable to govern or defeat the democratic resistance, the regime is actively manufacturing an internal enemy to distract from its collapse. By empowering ultranationalist factions to incite Islamophobia and halting the reconstruction of damaged masjids across the country, they are attempting to instigate religious conflict. They are searching for a scapegoat—marking religious minorities as “foreigners” or “migrants” to justify their own tyrannical rule under the guise of “protecting the nation.”

Our brothers and sisters inside Myanmar are living under a reign of terror. They cannot speak out, they cannot protest, and they cannot defend their basic right to worship without facing immediate violence, imprisonment, or death. Their silence is not a lack of courage; it is a necessity for survival.

Because they have been forced into silence, the responsibility to act falls entirely on us—the international community and the diaspora. We must become their shield and their voice.

We call on all fellow activists to move beyond passive observation and take immediate, strategic action from the outside:

1. Document and Expose the Narrative

Do not let these local persecutions happen in the dark.

Action: Safely collect, verify, and document incidents of masjid blockades, hate speech, and targeted harassment.

How: Forward this data securely to specialized monitoring groups like the Burma Human Rights Network (BHRN) or Fortify Rights. Frame these incidents on social media not merely as religious disputes, but as a calculated political distraction by a failing military regime.

2. Demand Accountability from the NUG

The National Unity Government (NUG) seeks international legitimacy as the rightful government of Myanmar. They must earn it by protecting all citizens.

Action: Diaspora organizations must formally lobby the NUG leadership.

How: Demand that the NUG issue clear, public statements condemning the military’s use of religious hatred and explicitly commit to restoring and protecting the religious freedom of all minorities, including Muslims, in a post-junta democratic Myanmar.

3. Pressure International and Regional Bodies

The junta is actively trying to break its diplomatic isolation. We must close those doors.

Action: Submit detailed reports of these religious freedom violations to international oversight bodies.

How: Target the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) and the UN Special Rapporteur on Myanmar to push for stricter targeted sanctions. Together, they outline a complete philosophy of intentional identity and proactive adaptability.

While they read like a seamless text, they actually come from two different thinkers:

“The pessimist complains about the wind…” is a famous modern aphorism credited to the American writer William Arthur Ward.

“First say to yourself what you would be…” is an ancient Stoic teaching from the Greek philosopher Epictetus, recorded in his Discourses.

Here is how these two quotes bridge the gap between who you want to be and how you handle the world:

1. Defining the Self (Epictetus)

Epictetus focuses on internal clarity. He argues that identity precedes action. Before trying to navigate life, you must first define your core values and character traits.

The Declaration: Explicitly state what you stand for (e.g., “I want to be resilient, calm, and dependable”).

The Execution: Once your identity is set, your daily choices must naturally align with it. If you decide to be a resilient person, you must choose to act resiliently when things get tough.

2. Navigating the Environment (William Arthur Ward)

Once you have defined your character, Ward’s metaphor shows how that character reacts to external circumstances beyond your control. He breaks down three distinct mindsets:

The Pessimist: Fixates on the problem, wastes energy complaining, and assumes a victim mindset.

The Optimist: Stays positive but remains passive, waiting for external conditions to miraculously improve on their own.

The Realist: Accepts reality as it is. They focus entirely on what is within their control and adjust their strategy to move forward anyway.

The Core Intersection

When you fuse them together, the message is clear: The “realist who adjusts the sail” is exactly what you choose to be when you practice the advice of Epictetus.

True Stoicism isn’t just about passively hoping things get better; it is about deciding to be a person of action, accepting the “wind” you are given, and adjusting your sails to navigate through it.

****************************

My analysis of the political landscape:

ဒီတပတ် ဂျွမ္မာဟ် က စပြီး မေမြို့ပန်းသေးဂျမအသ်ခါနာ နားရန်ခေါ်ပြောဟု သိရ

Dictators historically rely on what political scientists call the “In-Group vs. Out-Group” strategy—inventing a common enemy to divert attention from their own systemic failures.

In Myanmar, the military regime under Min Aung Hlaing (who transitioned into a nominally civilian “President” in April 2026 after heavily controlled sham elections) is facing immense existential pressure.
