{"id":6327,"date":"2026-06-18T07:27:40","date_gmt":"2026-06-18T07:27:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/myanmarmuslim.news\/en\/?p=6327"},"modified":"2026-06-18T07:27:41","modified_gmt":"2026-06-18T07:27:41","slug":"maal-hijrah-1448h-2026-celebrations-across-malaysia-emphasise-hijrah-as-a-path-to-positive-spiritual-change-only-but-ignored-the-physical-migrations-of-persons-and-people","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/myanmarmuslim.news\/en\/2026\/06\/18\/maal-hijrah-1448h-2026-celebrations-across-malaysia-emphasise-hijrah-as-a-path-to-positive-spiritual-change-only-but-ignored-the-physical-migrations-of-persons-and-people\/","title":{"rendered":"Maal Hijrah 1448H\/2026 celebrations across Malaysia emphasise hijrah as a path to positive spiritual change only but ignored the physical migrations of persons and people"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>KUALA LUMPUR<\/strong>: The spirit of hijrah as a pathway to positive change, stronger leadership and a more united ummah was a recurring theme at Maal Hijrah 1448H\/2026 celebrations held nationwide today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"585\" src=\"https:\/\/myanmarmuslim.news\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/image-118.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6328\" srcset=\"https:\/\/myanmarmuslim.news\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/image-118.png 1024w, https:\/\/myanmarmuslim.news\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/image-118-300x171.png 300w, https:\/\/myanmarmuslim.news\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/image-118-768x439.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Marked by spiritual programmes, including Quran recitations, religious talks and the presentation of awards, this year\u2019s celebration emphasised the importance of quality leadership in promoting public well-being and building a stronger civilisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In PUTRAJAYA, Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Nazrin Shah graced the national-level Maal Hijrah 1448H\/2026 celebration at Putra Mosque.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also present at the event, themed \u201cMADANI Dihayati, Ummah Diberkati\u201d, were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof and Minister in the Prime Minister\u2019s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan, together with about 5,000 attendees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the ceremony, Sultan Nazrin, who is also the Sultan of Perak, presented the National Tokoh Maal Hijrah Award to International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) rector Prof Emeritus Datuk Dr Osman Bakar, while Moroccan Islamic jurisprudence scholar Dr Ahmad Al-Raysuni received the International Tokoh Maal Hijrah Award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In SABAH, Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Musa Aman officiated the state-level Maal Hijrah celebration at Dewan Sa\u2019adah, Wisma Majlis Ugama Islam Sabah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tun Musa and his wife Toh Puan Faridah Tussin were welcomed on arrival by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and organising committee chairman Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif, who is also Sabah Local Government and Housing Minister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Community activist Datuk Ag Sharin Alimin, also a former director of the Sabah Islamic Religious Affairs Department, received the Tokoh Maal Hijrah Award (male category), while former Sabah deputy state secretary Datuk Masnah Matsalleh was honoured in the female category.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In TERENGGANU, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar called on the people to embrace hijrah as a process of transformation that shapes civilisation, strengthens society and builds a better future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the celebration attended by about 1,000 people, Ahmad Samsuri presented the Tokoh Maal Hijrah Award to 95-year-old Quran teacher Jusoh @ Muda Ismail, the adopted son and student of renowned Quranic scholar Tuan Guru Haji Mat Lintar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In KEDAH, Sultan of Kedah Al Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah said the state should fully harness its strengths as a land rich in natural resources and fertile agricultural areas to drive progress through knowledge, technology, good governance and strong social unity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The royal address was delivered by the Raja Muda of Kedah, Tengku Sarafudin Badlishah Sultan Sallehuddin, on the Sultan\u2019s behalf at the state-level Maal Hijrah 1448H\/2026 celebration at Wisma Darul Aman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the event, Tengku Sarafudin Badlishah presented the Kedah Tokoh Maal Hijrah 1448H Award to educational motivation expert Dr Shukri Abdullah. The Al Hana Mosque in Kuah, Langkawi and Al Fateh Mosque in Kuala Pegang, Baling were recognised as the best mosques in the urban and rural categories respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In PENANG, Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Ramli Ngah Talib urged Muslims to strengthen their faith and deepen their religious understanding based on authentic knowledge in navigating an increasingly fast-changing world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said technology and digital media should be used wisely and responsibly to enhance knowledge and reinforce religious values within society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also present at the celebration at Dewan Seri Al-Jazari TVET MARA Balik Pulau were Tun Ramli\u2019s wife Toh Puan Raja Noora Ashikin Raja Abdullah, Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Dr Mohamad Abdul Hamid and state leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Attended by nearly 500 people, the event saw Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) vice-chancellor Datuk Seri Dr Abdul Rahman Mohamed named Penang Tokoh Maal Hijrah for his contributions to education, research and innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A nurse at Seberang Jaya Hospital, Nur Deena Nadzhiefa Musni, 31, who gained public attention for feeding an elderly Indian patient while on duty, received a Special Award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ahmad Hashim Al-Hafiz and Norhayati Sidikah Abu Bakar were also honoured with the Ikon Pendakwah Award and Ikon Keluarga Sakinah Award respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In PAHANG, Sultan of Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri\u2019ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah officiated the state-level Maal Hijrah 1448H celebration at Laman Sejahtera Jelai in Sungai Koyan, Lipis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Sultan said the Hijrah event teaches that a society cannot be built on compassion alone, but must be founded on justice, sovereignty and the rule of law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said Islam encourages compassion towards those affected by hardship, displaced from their homeland, and victims of war and oppression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe people of this country have long shown generosity and compassion. Early in Muhammad&#8217;s preaching of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Islam\">Islam<\/a>, his followers only included his close friends and relatives. Following the spread of his religion, Muhammad and his small faction of Muslims then faced several challenges including a boycott of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Banu_Hashim\">Muhammad&#8217;s clan<\/a>, torture, killing, and other forms of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Persecution_of_Muslims_by_Meccans\">religious persecution by the Meccans<\/a>. Toward the end of the decade,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Abu_Talib_ibn_Abd_al-Muttalib\">Abu Talib<\/a>, Muhammad&#8217;s uncle, who supported him amidst the leaders of Mecca, died. Finally, the leaders of Mecca ordered the assassination of Muhammad, which was to be executed by 11 men with swords.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hijrah#cite_note-13\">[10]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In May 622, after having convened twice with members of the Medinan tribes of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Banu_Aws\">Aws<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Khazraj\">Khazraj<\/a>\u00a0at al-&#8216;Aqabah near\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mina,_Saudi_Arabia\">Mina<\/a>, Muhammad secretly left his home in Mecca to emigrate to their city, along with his friend, father-in-law and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sahabah\">companion<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Abu_Bakr\">Abu Bakr<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3\/ <strong>Ashura<\/strong>&nbsp;(<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Arabic_language\">Arabic<\/a>:&nbsp;\u0639\u064e\u0627\u0634\u064f\u0648\u0631\u064e\u0627\u0621,&nbsp;<em>\u02bf\u0100sh\u016br\u0101\u02be<\/em>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Help:IPA\/Arabic\">[\u0295a\u02d0\u0283u\u02d0\u02c8ra\u02d0\u0294]<\/a>), also more formally&nbsp;<strong>Yawm Ashura<\/strong>&nbsp;(<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Arabic_language\">Arabic<\/a>:&nbsp;\u064a\u0648\u0645 \u0639\u0627\u0634\u0648\u0631\u0627\u0621,&nbsp;<small><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Romanization_of_Arabic\">romanized<\/a>:&nbsp;<\/small><em>Yawm \u02bf\u0100sh\u016br\u0101\u02be<\/em>), is a day of commemoration in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Islam\">Islam<\/a>. It occurs annually on the tenth of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Muharram\">Muharram<\/a>, the first month of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Islamic_calendar\">Islamic calendar<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sunni_Islam\">Sunni<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Muslims\">Muslims<\/a>, Ashura marks- <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Parting_of_the_Red_Sea\">parting of the Red Sea<\/a>\u00a0by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Moses_in_Islam\">Moses<\/a>\u00a0and the salvation of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Israelites\">Israelites<\/a>. Also on this day, it is believed that\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Noah_in_Islam\">Noah<\/a>\u00a0disembarked from the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Noah%27s_Ark\">Ark<\/a>, <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>God forgave\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Adam_in_Islam\">Adam<\/a>, and\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Joseph_in_Islam\">Joseph<\/a>\u00a0was released from prison, among various other auspicious events having occurred on Ashura according to Sunni tradition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jesus\">Jesus<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Abraham_in_Islam\">Abraham<\/a>, and Adam were born, <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Muhammad was conceived,<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ashura#cite_note-FOOTNOTEReid2011-1\">[1]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jonah_in_Islam\">Jonah<\/a>\u00a0was freed from the fish that had swallowed him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Here are some Important Events in the Month of Muharam:<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. The Creation of the Universe<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Muharram marks the beginning of the Islamic year and symbolizes the creation of the universe. This month serves as a reminder of Allah\u2019s (SWT) magnificent creation and the cycle of life and time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Adam_in_Islam\">Hazrat Adam\u2019s (AS) Birth<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>We remember the birth of Hazrat Adam (AS), the first human being and prophet. His creation represents the divine wisdom behind humanity\u2019s existence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Hazrat Adam\u2019s (AS) Repentance<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>During Muharram, Hazrat Adam (AS) asked Allah (SWT) for forgiveness for his mistake, and Allah accepted his repentance. This event emphasizes the importance of seeking forgiveness from Allah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Hazrat Nuh\u2019s (AS) Ark<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>On the 10th of Muharram, Hazrat Nuh\u2019s (AS) ark came to rest on a mountain peak after the great flood. This symbolizes divine protection and the start of a new era after hardship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. Hazrat Musa (AS) and Pharaoh<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>On the 10th of Muharram, Hazrat Musa (AS) led the Israelites across the sea, which parted by Allah\u2019s command. Pharaoh and his army drowned, symbolizing the triumph of virtue over tyranny.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">6. Hazrat Yunus (AS) Saved from the Fish<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>On the 10th of Muharram, Hazrat Yunus (AS) was saved from the belly of a big fish. This miracle highlights Allah\u2019s mercy and the power of repentance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">7. Hazrat Yusuf (AS) Released from Prison<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Hazrat Yusuf (AS) was freed from an Egyptian prison during Muharram. Hazrat Yaqoob\u2019s (AS) Eyesight Restored<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Hazrat Yaqoob (AS) regained his eyesight in Muharram. Hazrat Isa (AS) Ascended to Heaven<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Hazrat Isa (AS) was raised alive to the heavens, showcasing Allah\u2019s extraordinary power and His unique treatment of prophets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">10. Martyrdom of Imam Hussain (RA)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Imam Hussain (RA) was martyred in the Battle of Karbala on the 10th of Muharram. His sacrifice symbolizes resistance to oppression and injustice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">11. Martyrdom of Hazrat Umer (RA)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Hazrat Umar ibn Al-Khattab (RA), the second Caliph of Islam, was assassinated on 1st Muharram in the year 24 AH, which corresponds to November 3, 644 CE.
