Everyone knows that the 1982 Citizenship Law was drafted by military leaders and is fundamentally unjust \u2014 yet it is selectively applied against Muslims. So if that law contains no federal provisions, then by your own logic of compliance, you should stop demanding federalism altogether. You follow the law when it suits you, while we are expected to obey a law that is unjust to us \u2014 a law we are therefore compelled to resist. Don’t come and try to fool us, “Maung Kalu.” I have read that entire law book from cover to cover, forwards and backwards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is one argument that racists keep recycling: “The word ‘Rohingya’ does not appear in the British colonial census!”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

But when asked whether the census used the term “Bengali” instead \u2014 the answer is also no<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Looking at the records themselves, the British colonial census actually recorded them as “Arakanese Muslims”<\/strong> (Arakanite Muslims<\/em>). The racists conveniently ignore this, acting as though the Rohingya never existed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By their own logic, the same census would also render the Kachin, Karen, Mon, and Rakhine<\/strong> peoples non-existent \u2014 because British records used different terminology for all of them:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is a classic tactic: selectively applying one standard to erase a single group, while ignoring that the same standard would erase everyone else too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This post is a pushback against the propaganda and gaslighting spread by Myanmar Racist bigots led by Ma Ba Tha and Military-Cybertroopers <\/strong>those who participated in, or provided cover for genocide<\/strong>. These are the deliberately misleading talking points of racists who want to make it seem as though the Rohingya people have no historical roots in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Read more. Do not let your understanding of the world be shaped entirely by what others tell you. If you are a person who genuinely engages with literature, history, and primary sources, there is no reason for you to become a victim of manipulative politicians and low-class racists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 1982 Citizenship Law of Burma, enacted under General Ne Win’s military government, <\/strong>effectively rendered the Rohingya stateless by restricting citizenship to 135 officially recognized “national races” \u2014 a list that excluded the Rohingya. Human rights organizations including the UN, Amnesty International, and Human Rights Watch have widely criticized the law as discriminatory and as a root cause of the Rohingya humanitarian crisis. The British colonial census terminology point raised here is historically documented and has been cited by scholars such as Jacques Leider and Moshe Yegar in studies of Arakan’s Muslim communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
