But what is increasingly worrying is not the question itself\u2014it is the <strong>rise of fear-driven, uninformed answers<\/strong> that distort Islam and alienate Muslims from their own society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Islam Is a Religion of Evidence, Not Emotion<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Islam does not operate on rumours, cultural paranoia, or loud opinions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is a religion built upon:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>the <strong>Qur\u2019an<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the <strong>Hadith<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and centuries of disciplined scholarship<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The foundational legal principle in Islam is clear:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Everything is permissible unless there is clear evidence prohibiting it.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Declaring something <em>haram<\/em> is not a casual matter. It requires <strong>explicit, credible textual proof<\/strong>\u2014not assumptions, not exaggerations, and certainly not emotional intimidation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yet today, we see the opposite trend:<br><strong>people declaring \u201charam\u201d faster than they can provide evidence.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Water: A Tool of Purification, Not Damnation<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In Islam, water is not suspicious\u2014it is sacred.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Qur\u2019an states:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>\u201cWe made from water every living thing.\u201d (21:30)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Water is central to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Wudu (ablution)<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ghusl (ritual purification)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>There is <strong>no verse, no authentic hadith<\/strong> that prohibits:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>getting wet with clean water<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>splashing water<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>playful contact with water<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>To suddenly equate water play with sin\u2014or worse, with hellfire\u2014is not religious piety. It is <strong>religious distortion<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Thingyan Is Culture, Not Worship<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Let us be absolutely clear:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For Muslims in Myanmar, Thingyan is <strong>not ibadah (worship)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a <strong>national festival<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a <strong>social tradition<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a <strong>shared cultural moment<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Participating in it does <strong>not mean adopting another religion<\/strong>. It does <strong>not invalidate faith<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Islam recognizes <strong>\u2018urf (custom)<\/strong>\u2014local traditions\u2014as long as they do not contradict core beliefs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Qur\u2019an reminds humanity:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>\u201cWe made you into nations and tribes so that you may know one another.\u201d (49:13)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Isolation is not piety.<br>Engagement\u2014with integrity\u2014is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Real Haram Is Being Ignored<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>While some obsess over water splashing, they conveniently ignore the <strong>actual prohibitions<\/strong> that often occur during festivals:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Alcohol Consumption<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Clearly forbidden:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>\u201cIntoxicants\u2026 are from the work of Satan\u2014avoid them.\u201d (5:90)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Indecency and Loss of Modesty<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Revealing clothing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sexualized dancing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Public immorality<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These are genuine violations of Islamic ethics\u2014not harmless water play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Harming Others<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>\u201cThere should be neither harming nor reciprocating harm.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Throwing water dangerously, targeting unwilling individuals, or creating public risk\u2014<strong>this is where sin begins<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Wastefulness (Israf)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Even permissible acts can become sinful when excessive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>\u201cIndeed, the wasteful are brothers of the devils.\u201d<\/em> (17:27)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wasting large amounts of water irresponsibly contradicts both <strong>Islamic ethics<\/strong> and <strong>social responsibility<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Dangerous Rise of \u201cInstant Fatwas\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A deeper issue lies beneath this debate:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The rise of unqualified voices issuing \u201cfatwas\u201d on social media.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These voices:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>lack scholarly grounding<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>rely on fear rather than knowledge<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>push young Muslims toward <strong>rigidity and isolation<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The result?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A generation confused into thinking:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Islam is against joy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Islam is against culture<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Islam demands withdrawal from society<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This is not Islam.<br>This is <strong>misrepresentation in the name of religion<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A Muslim\u2019s True Identity: Principled, Not Paranoid<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A knowledgeable Muslim does not:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>abandon his religion<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>nor abandon his society<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>He balances both.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>avoids what is clearly haram<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>participates in society responsibly<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>preserves dignity, modesty, and ethics<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Islam does not require cultural erasure.<br>It requires <strong>moral discipline within cultural life<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Conclusion: Stop Shrinking Islam<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To equate splashing clean water with \u201chellfire\u201d is not just wrong\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>it <strong>shrinks Islam<\/strong> into something fearful, fragile, and disconnected from reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Islam is not that weak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is a religion of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>confidence<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>balance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>knowledge<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Myanmar Muslims do not need to choose between:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>faith<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and <strong>belonging<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>They can\u2014and must\u2014uphold both.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Celebrate Thingyan if you wish\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>but do so with dignity, modesty, and responsibility.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Avoid what is truly haram.<br>Reject what is falsely declared haram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And most importantly:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Do not let ignorance speak louder than Islam itself.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video
