Historically, \u201cPathi\u201d<\/strong> was the term used during Myanmar\u2019s royal era for people of mixed ancestry<\/strong>\u2014descendants of Arabs, Persians, Indians (including Bengali\/Pakistani), Afghans, Turks<\/strong>, and local Burmese<\/strong>\u2014who were Muslims integrated into Burmese society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Key Historical Evidence<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. U Ba Than<\/strong>, a prominent historian, recorded that among the seven heroes of Bagan<\/strong>, Byat Ta and his two sons (the Shwe Phyin Brothers)<\/strong> were Pathi Muslim heroes<\/strong>, making three Muslim heroes<\/strong> in total.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Dr. Khin Maung Nyunt<\/strong>, former Chairman of the Myanmar Historical Commission, documented that Byat Ta<\/strong>, the renowned swift-footed hero of Bagan, was an Arab Muslim<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Scholar Thawda Swe<\/strong> wrote that King Anawrahta<\/strong> allowed Byat Ta to freely practice Islam<\/strong> and noted that Byat Ta taught the people of Bagan horsemanship and desert-born equestrian skills<\/strong>, which he regularly demonstrated.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Journalist Aung Moe<\/strong> stated in state-owned newspapers that among the 37 Nats of the Bagan era<\/strong>, the Shwe Phyin Brothers<\/strong> were revered as two Pathi (Muslim) Nats<\/strong>, known as Min Gyi Min Lay<\/em>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Hanthawaddy U Ba Rin<\/strong> recorded that King Anawrahta maintained a Pathi (Muslim) military unit<\/strong> that practiced Islam.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  6. Historian Dr. Than Tun<\/strong> pointed out that the term \u201cPathi\u201d<\/strong> appeared in Bagan-era stone inscriptions as early as AD 1224<\/strong>, indicating early contact between Arabs, Turks, and Bagan<\/strong>.\n
