Yet Singapore shelters its leaders, Thailand hands out legal documents, and China integrates the Wa economy directly into Yunnan. U.S. experts openly call the UWSA \u201cAsia\u2019s Mexican cartel\u201d\u2014untouchable, violent, and indispensable to China\u2019s geopolitical toolkit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile the Myanmar public, abandoned by nearly everyone, is carrying out what U.S. officials admiringly call a <strong>DIY Revolution<\/strong>\u2014a self-funded, self-organized struggle against a foreign-backed dictatorship. Congress passed the BURMA Act, but its implementation remains toothless. Western allies hedge; Asian partners play both sides; and Beijing tightens its grip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And Washington?<br>Washington is watching Myanmar burn <strong>from a very safe distance<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why the Apathy? Trump\u2019s America Has Other Wars\u2014And Other Fears<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If the Trump administration looks disinterested\u2014or worse, clueless\u2014there are reasons that go beyond ideology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1. Exhausted coffers, overstretched war machine<\/strong><br>Years of pouring money, weapons, and political capital into <strong>Gaza and Ukraine<\/strong> have drained U.S. attention and ammunition. Myanmar simply does not register as a priority when Washington\u2019s military-industrial complex is already running hot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2. PTSD from decades of disastrous wars<\/strong><br>The U.S. still carries deep political trauma from <strong>Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan<\/strong>.<br>Any scenario that risks confrontation with China\u2014especially in China\u2019s own backyard\u2014triggers a bipartisan fear response:<br><em>\u201cNot again. Not another long war with no clear victory.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Myanmar is thus seen as a geopolitical minefield with <strong>huge risks and zero economic benefit<\/strong>. No oil, no strategic bases, no vote-winning headlines.
