When President Donald Trump\u2019s administration announced the termination of TPS for Myanmar nationals, many observers were disappointed \u2014 but not surprised. Ending TPS is the prerogative of any US government. They may tighten or loosen their borders as they wish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But what is shocking \u2014 and frankly embarrassing \u2014 is the level of ignorance, irresponsibility, and detachment from reality displayed in Washington\u2019s accompanying political statements about Myanmar.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Calling Myanmar\u2019s Military-Controlled Election \u201cFree and Fair\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

To describe the manipulated, military-designed electoral process as free and fair<\/em> is nothing short of infantile intelligence<\/strong>. It exposes a US government that either does not understand Myanmar\u2019s political structure or deliberately chooses to whitewash authoritarianism when convenient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Praising a \u201cSuccessful Ceasefire\u201d That Never Existed<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Any suggestion that the ceasefire was \u201csuccessful\u201d demonstrates delusion and insanity<\/strong>. Ceasefire agreements in Myanmar exist on paper only, regularly violated by the military and opportunistically abused by armed groups.
For the US to declare success in such chaos is a testament to how far removed Washington is from the lived realities of Myanmar\u2019s people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Claiming Local Governance Has \u201cImproved\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This is perhaps the most out-of-touch<\/strong> statement of all. Local governance in Myanmar has collapsed \u2014 replaced by lawlessness, militarisation, arbitrary taxation, extortion, and humanitarian blockades.
If this is what the US considers \u201cimprovement\u201d, then American intelligence assessments are in a state of freefall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

THE SYMBOLISM OF AN UNINFORMED ADMINISTRATION<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

No wonder the incompetence trickles down.
In August 2024, Trump\u2019s Defense Secretary nominee Pete Hegseth<\/strong> was unable to name a single ASEAN country<\/strong> during his confirmation hearing.
This is not merely embarrassing \u2014 it is dangerous. It shows that Southeast Asia, including Myanmar, does not even register on the strategic radar of decision-makers responsible for global security<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A TRACK RECORD OF US BLUNDERS ON MYANMAR<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The US frequently lectures the world on democracy and human rights.
But on Myanmar, its actions reveal hypocrisy, selective morality, and geopolitical cowardice<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Failure to Support Myanmar\u2019s Opposition<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Unlike Israel or Ukraine, where US support is strong and immediate, Myanmar\u2019s democratic forces receive little more than speeches and symbolic condemnations.
No real pressure, no effective assistance, and no meaningful strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
