{"id":3752,"date":"2025-11-10T11:00:19","date_gmt":"2025-11-10T11:00:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/myanmarmuslim.news\/en\/?p=3752"},"modified":"2025-11-10T11:27:42","modified_gmt":"2025-11-10T11:27:42","slug":"ko-ko-gyis-the-peoples-party-misreading-of-myanmar-politics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/myanmarmuslim.news\/en\/2025\/11\/10\/ko-ko-gyis-the-peoples-party-misreading-of-myanmar-politics\/","title":{"rendered":"Ko Ko Gyi&#8217;s (the People\u2019s Party) Misreading of Myanmar Politics"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Ko Ko Gyi of the People\u2019s Party recently remarked that in Myanmar politics, opposition parties have only ever come to power through elections \u2014 apparently referring to the NLD government from 2015 to 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But it seems he has not thought this through carefully.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the <strong>Wa region<\/strong>, the <strong>UWSA (United Wa State Army)<\/strong> has exercised absolute control since <strong>April 17, 1989<\/strong> \u2014 that\u2019s <strong>over 36 years<\/strong> \u2014 without holding a single election. They rule as they please, not because of ballots, but because of <strong>their military might<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In <strong>Laukkai<\/strong>, the <strong>MNDAA (Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army)<\/strong> governs its own territory. In <strong>Rakhine<\/strong>, the <strong>AA (Arakan Army)<\/strong> now effectively administers much of the state. Their authority also arose from <strong>military strength<\/strong>, not from elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In times of peace, under an impartial and legitimate government, elections can indeed be a fair means of determining power.<br>But today\u2019s situation is far from that. When <strong>war criminals and coup perpetrators<\/strong> are the ones organizing elections \u2014 and <strong>no genuine opposition parties<\/strong> are allowed to compete \u2014 such elections merely serve to <strong>extend the military\u2019s slave system<\/strong> and provide it with a <strong>political exit strategy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In that grand performance, <strong>Ko Ko Gyi and his peers are merely playing minor supporting roles \u2014 extras, stage fillers, and facilitators<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If anyone claims that \u201cpower can only be achieved through elections,\u201d the <strong>Wa and other ethnic armed groups<\/strong> would surely laugh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Myanmar military never bows to anyone<\/strong> except those who wield real armed strength.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you wish to see whom the military truly respects among political figures and ethnic armed organization (EAO) leaders, just visit the hospital where <strong>Ko Ko Gyi, Zaw Min, Thet Thet Khine, and Pauk Yu Chan of the Wa National Unity Party<\/strong> are admitted together for a day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"720\" height=\"509\" src=\"https:\/\/myanmarmuslim.news\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image-49.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3757\" srcset=\"https:\/\/myanmarmuslim.news\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image-49.png 720w, https:\/\/myanmarmuslim.news\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image-49-300x212.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Then observe <strong>to whom Min Aung Hlaing<\/strong> sends his <em>bird\u2019s nests, rice porridge, and \u201cget well soon\u201d messages<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That alone answers not only Ko Ko Gyi\u2019s question \u2014 \u201cWhat do you want to become?\u201d \u2014 but also a deeper one:<br><strong>\u201cWhat have you already become?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tharawon (Pyay)<\/strong><br><strong>10 November 2025<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ko Ko Gyi of the People\u2019s Party recently remarked that in Myanmar politics, opposition parties have only ever come to power through elections \u2014 apparently referring to the NLD government from 2015 to 2020.
