{"id":2493,"date":"2025-09-01T06:45:53","date_gmt":"2025-09-01T06:45:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/myanmarmuslim.news\/en\/?p=2493"},"modified":"2025-09-01T06:49:52","modified_gmt":"2025-09-01T06:49:52","slug":"chinas-grip-on-myanmars-war-and-peace","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/myanmarmuslim.news\/en\/2025\/09\/01\/chinas-grip-on-myanmars-war-and-peace\/","title":{"rendered":"China\u2019s Grip on Myanmar\u2019s War and Peace"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>My translation <strong><em>my political advise for the Spring Revolution\u2019s forces<\/em><\/strong> and <strong><em><em>Commentary based on U Aung Tin (Canada)\u2019s reflections<\/em> <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">China\u2019s Grip on Myanmar\u2019s War and Peace \u2013 What It Means for the Spring Revolution<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cIf you oppose China, the entire country will vanish.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This chilling statement captures the reality that Myanmar\u2019s civil war\u2014its duration, intensity, and sudden shifts\u2014is deeply entangled with China\u2019s strategic interests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Evidence of China\u2019s Overwhelming Influence<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Why has Myanmar\u2019s civil war dragged on so long?<\/strong> Because of China.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Why did the Arakan Army (AA) expand so rapidly?<\/strong> Because of China.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Why were the \u201cThree Brotherhood Alliance\u201d (TNLA, MNDAA, AA) able to capture large swathes of territory so quickly?<\/strong> Because of China.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Why were some of those same territories returned afterwards?<\/strong> Because of China.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Why did the Wa (UWSA) support the Brotherhood Alliance with weapons, machinery, and finances?<\/strong> Because of China.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>And why did the Wa suddenly announce it will no longer provide weapons, machinery, finances, or \u201cother forms of support\u201d?<\/strong> Again\u2014because of China.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The Wa\u2019s statement explicitly forbade further requests for weapons or financial assistance, admitting indirectly that such support had indeed been given before. The vague phrase <em>\u201cother forms of support\u201d<\/em> only deepened suspicion that the Chinese state allowed or encouraged shadowy channels of assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In short: <strong>China has kept the conflict alive when it wanted instability, and now seeks to restrain it when its interests dictate \u201cpeace.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why Does China Want the War?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>China has long exploited Myanmar\u2019s natural resources under cover of war and weak governance. Endless conflict ensures dependence and makes resource extraction easier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why Does China Want Peace Now?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Because the extraction phase has reached its limits, and Beijing wants to consolidate political control. It aims to portray itself as mediator, set up an interim \u201ccaretaker\u201d authority in Naypyitaw, and guarantee its grip over pipelines, mines, and trade routes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If China succeeds in brokering such a settlement on its own terms, Myanmar risks not only territorial sovereignty but <strong>the slow disappearance of its national identity.<\/strong> As nationalist U Win Naing once warned three decades ago: in 40\u201350 years, there may be no Myanmar people left who are not mixed with Chinese blood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Danger of Blind Anti-China Stance<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Simply \u201chating China\u201d is not an answer. Hostility alone could destroy Myanmar faster, as Beijing has the power to suffocate the country\u2019s economy and politics. The real solution lies in understanding China\u2019s leverage while <strong>setting boundaries that protect Myanmar\u2019s sovereignty.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Preconditions for Any Peace Talks with the Junta<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If the Spring Revolution\u2019s forces are to enter discussions\u2014especially under China\u2019s shadow\u2014the following preconditions must be made clear:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>No unilateral disarmament.<\/strong> Revolutionaries must not be asked to lay down weapons before political guarantees are in place.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>People\u2019s mandate first.<\/strong> Any settlement must recognize the will of the people, not merely military or Chinese interests.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Independent mediation.<\/strong> Peace cannot be left in Beijing\u2019s hands alone; ASEAN, UN, and neutral states must be involved.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Safeguards against resource exploitation.<\/strong> Myanmar\u2019s sovereignty over natural wealth must be guaranteed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Timeline for transition.<\/strong> Talks must commit to a concrete roadmap toward federal democracy, not an indefinite \u201cceasefire\u201d that preserves dictatorship.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conclusion<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>China has proven\u2014through both action and denial\u2014that it can prolong or pause Myanmar\u2019s war at will. The Spring Revolution cannot ignore this reality. But neither should it submit blindly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The key is to engage tactically, insist on preconditions that reflect the people\u2019s aspirations<\/strong>, and ensure that any negotiation\u2014whether in Kunming, Beijing, or Naypyitaw\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>does not exchange one form of <strong>domination (the junta) for another (Chinese neo-colonialism).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"_r_2ot_\"><a
