Prominent Myanmar political figure and democracy activist U Myo Yan Naung Thein has publicly criticized General Tun Myat Naing of the Arakan Army (AA), accusing him of fostering division not only between the National Unity Government (NUG) and the People\u2019s Defense Forces (PDF), but also among the Chin ethnic communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking to Khumiland News, U Myo Yan Naung Thein alleged that despite the ongoing military struggle, General Tun Myat Naing has actively discouraged unity. He claimed the general urged resistance groups not to operate under NUG\u2019s command, framing the NUG as a \u201cBamar government\u201d and portraying Bamar people as weak. This, he said, undermines the broader effort to unify forces against the military junta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, U Myo Yan Naung Thein accused the general of dividing Chin ethnic groups and organizing factions in regions bordering Rakhine State. He also criticized Tun Myat Naing\u2019s rhetoric toward the Rohingya, saying that labeling them as \u201cBengalis\u201d during a time when global leaders are watching closely is a form of anti-Muslim incitement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThese actions reflect immaturity and a lack of strategic vision,\u201d U Myo Yan Naung Thein remarked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He suggested that if General Guan Maw were to take the lead, such divisive tactics could be reversed. According to him, Guan Maw\u2019s leadership could compel Tun Myat Naing to abandon efforts to isolate PDFs and other resistance groups from the NUG, and instead promote unity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTun Myat Naing would not dare defy Guan Maw\u2019s orders,\u201d he added, noting that Tun Myat Naing lacks the political and military experience of Gwynn Maw.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

U Myo Yan Naung Thein concluded by urging pressure on General Tun Myat Naing to cease these divisive actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

U Myo Yan Naung Thein is a well-known democracy advocate, politician, and writer in Myanmar. He previously served as a senior research officer in the Central Research and Strategic Committee of the National League for Democracy (NLD).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
