The announcement was made by junta chief Senior General Min Aung Hlaing<\/strong> during a national security conference in Naypyidaw<\/strong>, according to state-run newspaper The Global New Light of Myanmar<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The proposed elections are part of the military\u2019s narrative of returning to civilian rule following the February 2021 coup<\/strong> that toppled the democratically elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi<\/strong>.
