In this era where AI has become extremely advanced, many people are starting to wonder:
“Does education still have real value?
Or has it become nothing more than a money-making business?”
I believe many of us have asked ourselves something similar.
Why should anyone spend four years in university—paying expensive fees—when ChatGPT can answer many questions in a few seconds?
Why do people say “Education is a waste of money”?
Let’s look at the reality.
1. Information is now free
In the past, teachers “knew,” and students “did not know.” That’s why students had to go to school.
Today, almost all the world’s information exists inside a single phone.
Compared to the real world, many classroom syllabuses have become outdated.
2. Degrees vs Real Skills
Even major companies like Google and Tesla now prioritize “Can you actually do the job?” over university degrees.
A teenager who can code using AI may be more valuable than a computer science graduate with no practical skills.
3. Education has become too expensive
International schools and universities are charging unreasonably high fees.
Sometimes it even feels like parents are being squeezed under the excuse of “getting a good education.”
Does that mean university is now useless?
Not so fast. Don’t rush to drop out of school.
There are still important values in education that AI cannot give you.
1. Data ≠ Wisdom
AI can give you information,
but only education can teach you judgment, critical thinking, and how to use that information wisely.
Knowing what to ask AI is also a form of intelligence.
2. Connections & Networking
University is not only about studying.
It’s about meeting friends who share your interests and finding future collaborators.
Online learning exists, but AI can never replace in-person trust built through real relationships.
3. Discipline & Resilience
Submitting assignments on time and preparing for exams builds habits:
self-discipline, commitment, and the ability to push through difficulty.
These matter tremendously in the workplace.
My viewpoint
Traditional education—memorizing facts, exam-focused teaching, rote learning—is gradually losing value.
That kind of system is just wasting money.
But learning itself will never lose value.
If you’re going to university just for a certificate, then stop and reconsider.
But if you attend university to develop critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and meaningful networks, then keep going.
In the age of AI, education is no longer about “finding the correct answer.”
It has become about knowing how to ask the right questions.
