Dialogue is no longer optional — it is our last lifeline.
Like the parents in the Thuwanna Tharma Jataka who prayed:
“May we see our son walking back home carrying the pot of gold.”
May we see DASSK and Ma Ah La, jointly ruling peaceful Myanmar to progress to a heaven on earth?
For years, I have written publicly — and pleaded privately — with ASEAN leaders, the NUG, and even the Trump administration: to lobby President Xi; convince Beijing that supporting a sustainable, federated, peaceful Myanmar is better for China than clinging to a collapsing junta.
My warnings were ignored. Worse, the opposite unfolded:
China strengthened its engagement with the SAC while the opposition forces, instead of forming a united diplomatic front, splintered into infighting, corruption scandals, and strategic miscalculations. President Trump totally ignored the plight of Myanmar citizens, Spring Revolutionaries,Myanmar Refugees and Migrants but rather seemed to give some favour to the Junta and China’s policy on Myanmar.
Now, we are facing the consequences.
A Moment of False Hope: Amnesty Without Resolution
Yesterday’s prison amnesty brought a flicker of hope — but only a flicker.
Dozens of political prisoners were released, yet the two central figures whose freedom is essential for any real national reconciliation — Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and senior NLD leaders — remain behind bars.
Releasing peripheral detainees while keeping the primary stakeholders imprisoned is not genuine reform. It is political theatre.
From MMNN, and on behalf of all Myanmar citizens who still believe in dialogue, I respectfully request:
— Immediate release of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and the top NLD leaders.
— Immediate start of an inclusive, internationally facilitated peace dialogue involving China, ASEAN, and the United Nations.
Myanmar requires impartial negotiators.
We no longer have the internal trust needed to solve this alone.
The US–China Dance: Hope or Mirage?
Ank Min Zaw noted a significant development:
- Trump and Xi have held discussions.
- Trump is expected to visit China in April.
- Xi is invited to the US before next year ends.
- Trump’s office announced “greater mutual understanding” between Washington and Beijing.
Many in Myanmar immediately began to wonder:
Could this thaw open a new path for our crisis?
But as the Burmese saying goes — “Soon after the election, the sons will come home empty-handed.”
False hopes can break a nation’s spirit.
Silence, Lip Service, and Abandonment
The Burmese post reflects a painful reality:
- Leaders from all sides — military, NUG, NUCC — have offered lip service, not leadership.
- Some activists who once shouted loud have disappeared.
- Corruption scandals within the revolutionary camp have further demoralized the public.
- In Northern Shan State, strategic missteps have led to withdrawals and confusion.
- When the “homeowners” (Bamar majority) leave the political house, only the “guests” (ethnic minorities) remain — a metaphor for how badly the national consensus has fractured.
The public no longer hears the “voice of revolution.”
They hear exhaustion.
At the heart of it, ordinary citizens want simple things:
food, stability, security, and the rule of law.
A Nation Waiting Like in the Thuwanna Tharma Jataka
Like the parents in the Thuwanna Tharma Jataka who prayed:
“May we see our son walking back home carrying the pot of gold.”
We, too, pray that Myanmar’s future returns safely — before the monsoon closes the path forever.
The waves of political opportunity are slowing.
The tide is sinking.
The shelter may soon close.
As one Rohingya commentator bluntly noted:
“If Myanmar continues on this path, even the place to seek refuge will disappear.”
A Final Appeal Before It Is Too Late
Myanmar’s crisis cannot be solved by weapons alone.
It cannot be solved by one faction shouting louder than the other.
And it certainly cannot be solved by foreign powers who care only about strategy, not suffering.
Therefore, MMNN makes this urgent appeal:
To China:
Your influence is decisive. Use it to push all sides toward dialogue, not domination.
To ASEAN:
Stop issuing statements. Start mediating.
To the United States:
Use your renewed US–China engagement to nudge Beijing toward supporting a political settlement.
To the SAC and NLD:
Release the leaders. Sit at the table. The nation is bleeding.
To the NUG:
Rebuild credibility, address corruption, and present a unified negotiating position.
Myanmar stands at the final crossroads.
Dialogue is no longer optional — it is our last lifeline.
If we fail, the next amnesty might come too late…
and the next tide may not return.
