In a recent statement, General Tar Bone Kyaw of the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) declared that Myanmar’s future cannot be rebuilt through peaceful protest alone, but only by uprooting the military dictatorship led by Min Aung Hlaing through armed resistance. He emphasized that no single group can achieve this goal in isolation.
His remarks were featured in TNLA’s October newsletter, quoting a speech delivered at a graduation ceremony of the Ta’ang Law Academy. The exact date of the event was not disclosed.
Reflecting on the success of Operation 1027, Tar Bone Kyaw noted that multiple towns were captured, demonstrating that peaceful demonstrations alone are insufficient to dismantle the regime or rebuild the country. “We’ve tried peace talks and conferences. Now, the only option left is armed confrontation,” he said. “Only by balancing all fronts and cutting the roots of dictatorship can we truly rebuild the nation. We don’t know how long it will take, but we will strive to make it happen. It cannot be done by one group alone.”
He further stated that TNLA has cooperated with the National Unity Government (NUG), People’s Defense Forces (PDFs), and Spring Revolution forces. Additionally, TNLA has partnered with Ta’ang civil society organizations such as TNP and TCSO to form the Ta’ang People’s Consultative Council (TPCC).
Tar Bone Kyaw stressed that while military operations continue against Min Aung Hlaing’s forces, parallel efforts must be made to establish governance, justice, legislation, and defense systems in liberated areas. “As we fight to defeat Min Aung Hlaing, we must also prepare our society and regions to be justice-ready. We will build administrative, judicial, legislative, and defense structures in the form we envision,” he said.
However, as of October 29, TNLA has agreed to a ceasefire and withdrawal from Mogok and Moemeik following mediation efforts by China.
