Yangon – In response to the recent earthquake that struck Myanmar, the Myanmar Muslim Aid (MMAID) committee has mobilized urgent relief efforts to assist affected communities.

Swift Fundraising and Relief Efforts

As of April 23, 2025, MMAID has raised over 2.96 billion kyats (approximately $1.4 million) in donations to support survivors. The organization has been distributing emergency supplies, including food, clean water, and temporary shelter, in the hardest-hit areas.

In a Facebook post, MMAID called on the public to contribute through financial donations, volunteer work, or expertise, emphasizing that both individuals and organizations are welcome to join the relief efforts.

Rebuilding Mosques and Long-Term Recovery

While immediate relief needs have been met, MMAID has identified 22 mosques requiring reconstruction due to earthquake damage. Preliminary donations of over 60 million kyats have already been allocated for this purpose.

However, the organization stresses that long-term rehabilitation efforts—including housing repairs and community support—will require continued funding. An MMAID representative urged donors to contribute whatever they can, stating, “Every donation, big or small, helps rebuild lives.”
